There are some books out there that might be great to read with your child when they are coping with loss. Reading books with children is the springboard for discussions about their feelings and thoughts surrounding the loss. I usually find books online at chapters.ca or amazon.ca

I also browse the bins at Frenchys!! Lots of treasures there!

Samantha Jane’s Missing Smile: A Story About Coping With the Loss of a Parent (Julie Kaplow)

Here are a couple websites I used in my grief and loss counseling course. Hope these are helpful to you!!

http://www.hospicenet.org/html/child.html WOW!! This is the first website to visit in order to get a very comprehensive overview of how to help children deal with grief. Great for parents.

http://www.kidsource.com/sids/grief.html  This site provides an article which gives a great overview of grief and what to expect of and from children as they are going through the grief process. Interesting to note is a small section on what not to say to children who have suffered a loss.

http://kidsaid.com/ The companion site to Griefnet.org. This site provides answers to parents and children who are grieving. There is a link to a free memorial site as well.
