THE FOUR TYPES OF CYBER BULLIES

  • The Vengeful Angel

  • The Power-Hungry or Revenge of the Nerds

  • The “Mean Girls”

  • The  “Because I Can” Cyberbully

The Vengeful Angel“The Vengeful Angel”

In this type of cyberbullying, the cyberbully doesn’t see themselves as a bully at all.

They see themselves as helping others from the “bad guy”.  But even though they are bullying the "Bad Guy", this is still bullying and it is wrong.

The victim of cyberbullying or other types of bullying could become a cyberbully themselves.

They may be angry at something the "Bad Guy" did and feel they have the right to teach them a lesson.

The “Vengeful Angel” cyberbully often gets involved trying to protect a friend who is being bullied or cyberbullied.

Vengeful Angels need to know that no one should try and take matters into their own hands.

Fighting bullying with more bullying only makes things worse.

Power-HungryThe “Power-Hungry” and “Revenge of the Nerds”

Some cyberbullies want to show that they are powerful enough to make others do what they want and some want to control others with fear.

Sometimes the kid wants to hurt another kid.

Sometimes they just don’t like the other kid.

"Power-Hungry” cyberbullies often brag about their actions.

They want a reaction, and without one may bully even worse  to get one.

Often, the “Power-Hungry” cyberbully is often the victim of regular bullying.

They may be girls. They may be smaller.

They may be picked on for not being popular enough, or cool enough.

They may be really skilled with the computer. Some people call this the “Revenge of the Nerds” cyberbullying.

They want to scare or embarrass their victims.

And they feel powerful because they never have to see their victim face to face.

They may act tough online, but are not tough in real life.

Revenge of the Nerds cyberbullies  rarely understand how serious cyber bullying really is.

Mean Girls“Mean Girls”

In the “Mean Girls” bullying situations, the cyberbullies are girls. They may be often bullying other girls or boys.

“Mean Girls” cyberbullying is usually done, or at least planned, in a group, either online or together in one room.

This kind of cyberbullying is done for entertainment. The bully is bored and wants something to do.

It may start from a school computer or a sleep-over. Or it may start at someone's house after school.

The cyberbullies in a “mean girls” situation want others to know who they are and that they have the power to cyberbully others.

This kind of cyberbullying grows when other people in the group join in, or when others stand by and let it happen.

The Inadvertent CyberbullyThe "Becasue I Can" Cyberbully

These cyberbullies usually don’t think they are cyberbullies at all. They may be pretending to be tough online.

They may be reacting to hateful messages they have received.

They don’t mean to cyber bully. They act without thinking about the consequences.

They may feel hurt, or angry because of a message sent to them, or something they have seen online. They are angry or frustrated.

They don’t think before clicking “send.”

They may send cyberbullying messages or target someone without understanding how serious this could be.

They do it for the heck of it “Because I Can.”

They do it for the fun of it.

They may also do it to one of their friends, joking around.

But their friend may not recognize that it is another friend and may take it seriously.

They tend to do this when alone, and are surprised when someone calls them a cyberbully.
