BLACK LOYALIST/BOOK OF NEGROES

 HERITAGE ASSIGNMENT

For this assignment you will be designing 4-6 heritage markers that relate to Shelburne’s Black Loyalist heritage and THE BOOK OF NEGROES.

Since the Book of Negroes has been a best selling novel and it may be made into a movie, imagine that the town has asked you to create a heritage walk/trail for tourists that explains the connection between the history of Shelburne and Birchtown and The Book of Negroes.

For each proposed marker you must include:

v    An image or description of the image you would use

v    A caption that describes the historical significance of the image.

v    The location of the marker. (Where would you put it)

v    The page number(s) from the Book of Negroes that relate to the marker.

OPTION 1: Design a brochure (computer or hand-drawn) that has a cover page with brief background of the purpose of the brochure (why you are creating it) and 4 sketches and captions and a map of the area or  of Nova Scotia indicating the location of Shelburne and Birchtown.

OPTION 2 : Write a letter or create a powerpoint that you would show to the town council describing the purpose of the project and 6 markers including a written description of the image on the marker.

YOU MAY WORK IN GROUPS OF TWO or by yourself.
