Science in Primary looks at the senses and studies are done through using the senses.

The big idea in Social Studies in Primary is Connections and looks at connections in three areas, Social, Roots and Place.

Health in Primary looks at self in the family and through friendships, our body’s bones and muscles, making healthy food choices and being able to say “no”.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts for Primary is broken into three parts:

Making:  Students will understand that feelings and ideas can be expressed through art-making.  They will work individually and with others.

Looking:  Students will view a range of artwork.  They will learn that art is an expression of culture and demonstrate sensitivity and respect for both their own and others artwork.

Reflecting:  Students will bring personal meaning to artwork and be able to communicate their thoughts about art.

  • Be in school every day unless you are sick or away.  **Please call the school if your child will be late or not in—this way all children will be accounted for.

  • Participate—your child should respond to questions, share ideas and join in on activities; all in a respectful way
  • Treat everyone with respect—both adults and peers

4.      How will my child be assessed and evaluated?  How is my child doing and how will I know?

·        Informal assessment will occur in your child’s class daily through observation (do they take pride in their work, ability to do their work, willingness to participate, how independently they work, how they interact with their peers)

·        Information for formal evaluation will be gathered from their work and one-on-one interviews.  The findings will be shared through their three report cards in December, March and June.
