Vancouver in the 1950s with his wife Elsie
and his five kids, they were the only black
family in the neighborhood. He was shy
so he chose not to be in the spotlight
even after his athletic legend grew.In
the 1964 commonwealth games he tore his left
quadriceps muscle and most orthopedic
doctors said he would never run again.
