Christmas in Scotland

   In 2006 the population in Scotland was  5,181,000.
Flag of Scotland
Scotland’s flag is called ST.Andrew’s Cross.The flag has never been officially adopted,but the Scottish people have flown it for hundreds of years.
Celebrated
Christmas was not celebrated much,most people celebrated New Year’s Eve (Hogmanay).They celebrate Christmas December 25.
Language
Scottish people speak mainly English with a Scottish accent.They say Merry Christmas the same way that we do.
Scotland’s Christmas Tree
Most homes had a Christmas tree.They would decorate the tree on New Year’s Eve.The decorations were usually the same ones every year.
Scotland’s Santa
Scotland’s Santa is the same as our Santa.He has a white beard and a red hat with cotton balls around the bottom and one on top of the hat.He has a red suit ,red pants and black boots with a cherry red face,a black belt with a golden buckle.
The traditional food and recipe
A trifle which would be sponge cake,fruit,custard,jell and cream all layered in a glass bowl,or else a clootie dumpling,which the mother would start to make early in the morning.
Unique Things
In Scotland it is tradition to keep a fire burning to ward off evil spirits.Should the fire go out evil spirits are then able to enter through the chimney and bad luck will stay with you all the following year.
Presents
Boys would get chocolate and hard candy and a book and maybe a coloring book.The girls would get hair clips,books ,chocolate and an orange and both boys and girls would get a yoyo.Bad kids would get coal just like us.
The holy family
Baby Jesus,Mary and Joseph are the center of our Christmas celebration in the Christmas faith.The birth of Jesus is the reason for Christmas day.
The Wise men traveled great distances  following only a star that led them to Bethlehem, the place were Jesus was born.They brought gifts to worship baby Jesus.
The angels are heavenly  beings that announced the birth of Jesus to the world.They play harps and trumpets in musical celebration.
