Smith and crackers
In 1844 Thomas Smith ,an English candy maker, visited France
& saw Bon bon or Christmas crackers ,sugar coated
almonds wrapped in squares of colored paper that is
twisted at each end. He returned to England and began making
Christmas crackers that contained candy,mottoes, jokes
and riddles by the turn of the century Thomas Smith’s
firm was selling 13 000 000 crackers each year.
