Heart Art

 

We first completed the “Heart Art” optical illusion art. This

activity explores line and color as the elements of design. Students

first draw hearts on their page (in pencil). Hearts should vary in size

and direction. Students then choose a variety of monochromatic colors.

Using a ruler, they draw lines across the page, being careful to not

draw through the hearts. The closer together the lines are, the

better the optical illusion effect. When the lines have all been drawn,

students go back and fill in the hearts with curved lines. When done

correctly, the hearts should have the optical illusion of rising off the

sheet. Example:
