Air Layering
In this method a black plastic bag is used to hold moss around a wounded stem. New roots would develop where the stem was wounded.
Mr. Holmes' plant is sick. He has already lost half of it. We are attempting to save it with 'layering'. If this is successful new roots will develop where the plant was wounded by removing a strip of bark the whole way around the stem. Rooting hormone was applied to the wound. A rooter pot was attached to the stem over the wound and filled with moist soil-less potting mix and covered. It will be watered every week or two and may produce a new plant in 8 weeks. We were unsuccessful in this attempt. The root system appears to have failed (rotted) or was too far gone before we began.
