born into a family of 14 his mother and father: George and Mildred Goins McCoy. He also had 11 siblings. Later in life he had his own family. His first wife was Ann Elizabeth Stewart who he married in 1868
sadly she died in 1872. His second wife was Mary Eleanor Delany.
