•Josiah Henson was given the Christian name of
his first master Dr. Josiah
McPherson, and the surname of
his masters uncle. Josiah was five when McPherson died. At the age of eighteen Josiah Henson became a Christian, during his three years in Kentucky. He became a preacher to make money to buy his freedom. Josiah sailed though
Indiana and Ohio to buffalo when
crossing the Niagara river
they finally reached upper Canada
on October 28th 1830 .
