•In 1991 he became the first
African American president of Harvard Law review.
•Soon after he returned to
Chicago to practice as a Civil rights Lawyer
and teach Constitutional Law.
•Finally, advocacy work lead
him to run Illinois State Senate were he served eight years.
•In 2004 he became the third
African American since Reconstruction to be
elected to the US senate.
•His wife, Michelle, and his
two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 6, live on Chicago’s South Side now where they attend
Trinity United Church of Christ.
•Barack Obama, the junior
senator from Illinois, spoke to America for the first time as a President Elect. He became the
nation’s first African American president when he was
