Plant Groups
Just as all animals can be grouped as those with backbones (vertebrates) and those that do not (invertebrates), all plants can be divided into two groups - those that produce seeds (seed-producing) and those that do not (non-seed-producing).
Most familiar plants reproduce by forming seeds. Many other plants reproduce by forming spores, which are quite different from seeds.
Seeds usually are produced in flowers or flower-like structures.
Flowers sometimes are not colorful or easily seen.
The cones of pines, spruces, and other conifers are much like the flowers of other seed-producing plants, even though they may not resemble flowers that we know.
